Craft and patience: the Otomí cooperative behind the Embroidered Overcoat

Piezas de mezclilla pintadas en taller

Lupita's hands have known this stitch since before she could read.

Otomí embroidery is a geometric code passed down through generations. Twelve women work at the Tenango cooperative; each finishes an average of two coats per month. The embroidery isn't rushed.

This year's edition runs to only 80 pieces. Each is signed with the initials of the artisan who finished it.
